Dixonians 0 - 29 Bournville, Saturday 17th October 2009

Bournville 2s continued their quest to win every game this season with a comfortable 29-0 win over Dixonians 2s.

The game started slowly with both teams' defences proving hard to break down. There was little action inside either 22 until about half way through the first half when the home side were reduced to 13 men after a fractious 5 minute period saw the referee issue 2 yellow cards for foul play. Bournville were quickly able to capitalise on their 2 man advantage with Lee Chaney finishing a simple move in the corner and Simon Andrews crashing over soon after to give the away side a 12-0 advantage going into the break.

The second half continued as the first half had ended, with Bournville keen to add to their haul of tries. When Bournville were awarded a penalty inside the Dixonians 22, the home team stood waiting for the kick to touch but Brett Toole caught them napping by taking a quick tap to allow Simon Andrews to burst through the Dixonians centres and finish under the posts.

The handling of the Bournville backs showed a marked improvement to the Bridgnorth game but numerous penalties given against both sides for infringements at the breakdown prevented either team from finding any rhythm. It took some quick thinking from outside centre Steven Rice to breach the solid Dixonians defence again - after the home side had put the ball out inside their own 22, Rice took a quick lineout and some simple hands from 2 of Bournville's lumbering forwards culminated in a simple finish for Simon Andrews' third try of the day, despite his best efforts to drop the ball going over the line.

The afternoon's scoring was wrapped up by the impressive John Ball when the fly-half broke the Dixonians line on the 22 and had the pace and power to finish comfortably. Although keen to add to their score, Bournville became increasingly frustrated with some peculiar refereeing decisions and weren't helped by 2 yellow cards of their own. Down to 13 men, it was only some excellent defensive work from Andy Tamms and Dai Hallmen that prevented Dixonians from scoring a consolation try, but the away side held firm for the last 5 minutes and will be pleased to have kept their first clean sheet of the season.
