About Seal of Approval.

 
What is the Seal of Approval?
 
  • The RFU introduced the Mini and Youth Seal of Approval accreditation programme in 2002 as a method of examining, maintaining and improving the provision of rugby in the mini and youth section of a rugby club. Building upon current good practice, the accreditation aims to recognise the effort and achievement of those clubs that reach, maintain and improve on the required standard of a club committed to the provision of quality rugby union experiences for young players.
  • The RFU has worked with Sport England to integrate the Mini and Youth Seal of Approval accreditation with the Sport England Clubmark Scheme.  Any club awarded the Community Rugby Mini and Youth Seal of Approval will also have achieved Clubmark accreditation.

Codes of Conduct.

 
The essence of good ethical conduct and practice is summarised below.
 
CODE OF CONDUCT FOR CLUB OFFICIALS AND VOLUNTEERS
 
All club officials and volunteers must:
 
  • Consider the well-being and safety of participants before the development of performance.
  • Develop an appropriate working relationship with performers, based on mutual trust and respect.
  • Make sure all activities are appropriate to the age, ability and experience of those taking part.
  • Promote the positive aspects of the sport (eg fair play).
  • Display consistently high standards of behaviour and appearance.
  • Follow all guidelines laid down by the national governing body and the club.
  • Hold the appropriate, valid qualifications and insurance cover.
  • Never exert undue influence over performers to obtain personal benefit or reward.
  • Never condone rule violations, rough play or the use of prohibited substances.
  • Encourage performers to value their performances and not just results.
 
CODE OF CONDUCT FOR PARENTS / GUARDIANS
 
All parents and guardians must: 
 
  • Encourage your child to learn the rules and play within them.
  • Discourage unfair play and arguing with officials.
  • Help your child to recognise good performance, not just results.
  • Never force your child to take part in sport.
  • Set a good example by recognising fair play and applauding the good performances of all.
  • Never punish or belittle a child for losing or making mistakes.
  • Publicly accept officials' judgements.
  • Support your child's involvement and help them to enjoy their sport.
  • Use correct and proper language at all times.
     
CODE OF CONDUCT FOR PLAYERS
 
All players must:
 
  • Participate for the fun of it, not to just please your parents/coach.
  • Play to the laws of the game.
  • Accept all of the referees decisions.
  • Control your temper - and you and your team will benefit.
  • Recognise all good play, whether by your team or by your opponents team - be a good sport.
  • Treat all players as you yourself would like to be treated, do not interfere with, bully or take unfair advantage of any player.
  • Remember, as well as enjoyment the aims of the game are to improve your skills and fitness.
  • Co-operate with and respect your coach, the referee, your team mates and your opponents, for without them you do not have a game.
  • Attend training sessions whenever possible.
  • Not be a Show Off.
  • Work equally hard for yourself and your team - your team's performance will benefit and so will your own.

Safeguarding Policies.

 
Introduction.
 
Bournville Rugby Club aims to provide a safe and enjoyable environment in which our mini and junior members can learn the skills of rugby and enjoy playing the game. For the purposes of this policy, children / mini / junior members are those who have not yet attained the age of 18.
 
General.
 
Our Safeguarding Policy is available for all members & parents via the club website. A register of players attending matches and training sessions will be maintained by club coaches/officials.

At the start of each season, the parents / guardians of all mini / junior players - together with the players themselves - must complete & sign an Informed Consent form & hand it to the relevant coach.

This will provide the club with information such as emergency contact telephone numbers and specific medical conditions, together with any necessary authorisations In accordance with Sports UK & RFU guidelines, coach / player ratios should not exceed 1:10 during any coaching session. Rugby is to be enjoyed, and all parties (coaches, parents, players, etc.) will be expected to conform to our Codes of Conduct, as detailed on our website.
 
Health and Safety.
 
The club strongly recommends that all players wear mouth guards and further recommends the wearing of shin pads. The club has an accident / incident procedure for recording relevant incidents. A complete First Aid kit will be available at every match or training session and, where possible, an adult with a current First Aid Certificate will be present.
 
Safeguarding and Protecting Young People.
 
All Bournville youth section coaches and volunteers have been, or are in the process of being, CRB checked and have current certificates. Where mini / junior members of the Club are training or playing matches, representatives of the Club are involved in the care of children. Children will be accorded respect and consideration at all times. Should the Club be concerned about the welfare of any child then appropriate action will be taken, where necessary involving external agencies. It is essential that parents / carers inform the club of any accidents, illnesses or medical conditions. Discipline will be according to the rules of the game and Codes of Conduct for players, coaches, parents and spectators as detailed on the club website The Club will endeavour to ensure that all age groups have a representative who has taken and successfully completed a RFU Safeguarding and protecting Young People Course.
 
Complaints Procedure.
 
The Club will endeavour to respond as quickly as possible to any complaint against any representative of the Club Should a parent have a complaint, concern or comment he or she should approach the Club Welfare Officer, Mike Ross, in person or by telephone or the Club Chairman if deemed more appropriate. All matters will be dealt with in the strictest confidence Should the complainant be unhappy with the response, he or she should contact The Club Chairman John Heneghan.

  • Coaches. Full booking / payment details for courses can be found on www.emru.co.uk – follow the ‘coaching’ tab on the left hand side.  This site also lists the full Coaching Course programme across North Mids for the 09/10 season.
  • IRB Rugby Ready Courses are regularly held at Bournville RFC. The Rugby Ready course takes about 2 - 3 hours and gets any keen dads or mums onto the coaching ladder. Valuable for any parents that would like to get a bit more involved at the weekends and all coaches must complete the Rugby Ready course BEFORE they are able to attend a level 1 course.
