On a weekend where Bournville first team had another rest week it was left to Bournville 2’s to provide the pre England-Wales entertainment. After a good win against a strong Lichfield side last week Bournville were looking to continue their winning ways and were able to field a strong side to travel to Old Salts.

BOURNVILLE 2'S EXCEL IN DUEL IN THE SUN

In the sweltering conditions of Saturday afternoon Bournville Second team inflicted a heavy and ultimately very satisfying defeat on Sutton RFC by 17 points to 54. This victory was made all the more impressive after the disappointing loss to the same opposition just a few weeks ago.

It was an early meet at the Munrow Centre for an away match against Newcastle, not Newcastle Upon Tyne, the other one. Although I’m not sure that the person who organised the meet time realised this. It was clear that a number of the lads hadn’t seen 10am on a Saturday morning for a while and this was evident by their attire, worst as you would expect being Evan Byrne, sporting an outfit even Worzel Gummidge would have turned his nose up at.

After the disaster of the first fixture being cancelled at very late notice, this Saturday came the return game against Dudley Kingswinford, at home, with the victors to take double points.
