| Bournville 74 - 12 Dunlop, Saturday 8th October 2011 |
BOURNVILLE GO THROUGH THE GEARS IN TRY-FESTOn a dull and overcast October day Bournville welcomed Dunlop to the University, looking to continue their unbeaten start to the season. Changes were again needed with Paul Coles, Dean Bick and Rhydian Smith unavailable. Rob Sigley, Phil Brown and Ian Coles made a new look front row with Nick Southern taking the captain’s armband, a job he successfully performed the last time Bournville were promoted. Hesy Fakatou was a late withdrawal in the warm up with Pete Nancarrow promoted to the starting line up. Bournville started the match well with Robin Eatough gliding through the opposition’s defence to score the first try of the match. Robin didn’t make it onto the score sheet last week and looked in the mood to make up for it. Bournville’s start to the game got better when a jinking run from Rod Petty led to a score in the corner. Dunlop began to come into the match but exuberant defence from Adrian Maynard and Pete Nancarrow stopped a number of attacks. After a Dunlop infringement close to their line Alex Warner converted an easy penalty. Dunlop were starting to feel the pressure and a loose kick out of defence went straight into the arms of Dan Barratt who took the invitation to slide effortlessly through the defence for another score. The first half continued to be dominated by Bournville with 5 more tries. The pick of them was scored by Chris Humphrey after the forwards had secured quick ball and a well executed backs move sent him clean through under the posts. There were also tries for Paul Cox, Alex Ward, Dan Barratt and Robin Eatough to leave the half time score at 55–0. Credit must be given to Dunlop who came out in the second half really looking to put pressure on Bournville. Dunlop took the game to Bournville, trying to run the ball from all areas and stretch this Bournville team. Bourn's had an unfortunate break with Chris Humphrey being sin binned for a late tackle. Dunlop took full advantage and managed to get on the score sheet with a well worked try. Even with one less player Bournville were stretching the Dunlop defence and Nick Southern showed his pace on the wing to skirt along the touchline for another Bournville score. Shortly after this the match became disjointed with both teams having a player sin binned. Dunlop’s for a tackle in the air, whilst Bournville’s Alex Warner was the recipient of a team yellow card for continual infringements. With the game looking stretched Robin Eatough continued to add to his try tally for the season scoring two more to give Bournville a resounding win, 74–12. After the match Rob Griffin was pleased that Bournville had made it 5 wins from 5, “It’s great to continue our winning start to the season, but more impressive was the way we won as last season we failed to finish off teams on numerous occasions.” Next week Bournville travel to Kenilworth, who played in the national league last year and should represent a tough encounter however they are currently having a torrid time in the league so far, finding themselves bottom after 6 matches.
